How to use practice questions well
Volume matters less than review. For every question — right or wrong — read the rationale and ask why each wrong option is wrong. That habit builds the clinical judgment the exam's Next Generation (NGN) items test.
Priority frameworks to memorize
- ABCs — Airway, Breathing, Circulation come first.
- Maslow — physiological needs before safety, then love and belonging.
- Acute vs. chronic — a new, sudden change beats a long-standing condition.
- Actual vs. potential — treat what is happening now before what might happen.
- Unstable vs. stable — unexpected findings beat expected ones.
Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) item types
Expect case studies built on the Clinical Judgment Measurement Model: recognize cues, analyze cues, prioritize hypotheses, generate solutions, take action and evaluate outcomes. Formats include extended multiple response, matrix, drag-and-drop, highlight and bow-tie items.
